One day too early

I tried to use a 7-Eleven voucher one day too soon and shared a laugh with the cashier while we worked out my mistake.

I turned up at 7-Eleven one day too early to claim two free drinks.

On 12 September 2026, I bought a drink and was given a voucher for two free drinks. A couple of days later, I went back to use it.

The cashier explained, through a mixture of Japanese and English, that the voucher would only be valid from the following day. Once I understood what had happened, we both laughed. She asked whether I wanted to cancel the order. I said yes, said sumimasen deshita, and left without my free drinks.

Nothing dramatic happened, which is exactly why I want to keep it here. It was a small misunderstanding, a friendly exchange, a little Japanese used in real life, and a snapshot of ordinary life in Japan: the sort of moment that would otherwise be easy to forget.
